When you choose a tier, you can add add-ons. At any point during the campaign you can always hit ‘manage your pledge’ -> ‘’change your pledge’, and add more.
You’ll have another chance to increase your pledge and purchase add-ons when we send out our backerkit surveys, so don’t worry about missing out!

When will I get my rewards?
We estimate that digital content will be delivered within six months, most will be delivered much sooner (STLs for example will be delivered within 1-2 months). We aim for the physical rewards to ship in 10 to 12 months as a rough estimate.
Last updated: September 24, 2025 09:07
When will I be charged?
After the Kickstarter campaign ends on October 27th, Kickstarter will charge your chosen payment method automatically. If you’ve picked a physical reward, remember that you’ll still need to cover shipping (check our estimated prices) and any applicable sales tax. The exact amount depends on your order, location, and local tax rates, all paid via Backer Kit Pledge Manager.

How will you collect names for the name credit in book for the "All-In" and "All Kickstarters" tier?
This will be a part of the Backerkit survey we will be sending out in November. You can put your name in the survey as you would like it displayed with final discretion being made by us to prevent trolling or anything inappropriate. If no input is given we will use the name in your Kickstarter Profile.

I backed in the first 72 hours, how do I get my exclusive foil sticker & soft-edged dice set?
Here’s how this works: - You back the ‘Game Ready’ or any higher tier. (excluding Retail) - Everyone who backed in the first 72 hours then gets asked, in their Backerkit survey, whether they want the dice. - If you say yes, it’s added to your order free of charge.
IMPORTANT NOTE: if you edit your pledge, that’s fine, the timestamp doesn’t change. If you CANCEL your pledge, then it’s deleted and you might miss out (even if you back again later).

What is the Dark Descent setting?
Dark Descent is set in the subterranean realm of Deephold, an underground realm where desperate prospectors, intrepid adventurers, and exiles condemned to the depths struggle to survive in a place where light is more valuable than water. Once the territory of a long-shattered empire of sorcerous giantkin known as the Anak, Deephold is strewn with the festering remains of their great and terrible works – dark wonders of blood magic and infernal sorcery that are both highly forbidden and incredibly valuable among the kingdoms of the surface world.
For generations, local tribes have cast their exiles into the caves, and in recent years, the upstart noble house of Tallona has created a scavenging industry out of the sprawling cavern complex, sending political prisoners, criminals, and sometimes even falsely accused unfortunates into the depths. The upper levels have become a series of semi-lawless penal colonies populated by desperate survivors, while the darkest depths remain a tantalizing – and dangerous – mystery.

How does the campaign of Exiles of Deephold unfold?
Exiles of Deephold is a subterranean dark fantasy campaign that sees the characters branded as criminals and condemns them to survive in the dangerous, lightless depths deep beneath the earth.
Afflicted with the eldritch infection known as Voidstone Sickness, the characters are fated for a slow and agonizing death. Their only hope is to delve to the darkest of depths of Deephold in search of a rumoured, mythical cure.
Exiles of Deephold is made up 6 themed adventures that can be run as individual tales of subterranean terror or combined into a single mega-campaign. The characters must explore the remnants of ancient civilizations, navigate the criminal politics of Low Town, and survive the unimaginable terrors of the deep.

How many players can enjoy the Exiles of Deephold campaign?
The campaign is written with party sizes of four to six players in mind, but playing with fewer or more players could certainly be possible with minor changes for balance. We have playtested the campaign twice in full, once with 5 players and once with 3.

Does the Book setting from your other Kickstarters (Mammoth Chronicles & Hoard of Ghaundal) connect with the Dark Descent? [Not really]
No, but also yes? Our Previous two Kickstarters are set in Eora, a more traditional high fantasy setting, whereas Dark Descent is set beneath the surface of the world of Aerrad.
That being said, Dark Descent is designed to be seamlessly integrated into most fantasy settings as it is an alternative version of the traditional under-dark - so you can definitely connect them if you wish.

Will each of the STL Stretch Goals have stats for them added to the physical book? [NO]

What happens when the Kickstarter ends?
After our Kickstarter ends, you’ll receive a receipt for your pledge. It’s important to check this receipt to make sure your pledge went through successfully. We won’t be able to deliver items to pledges that didn’t go through, so please double-check.
Once your pledge is confirmed, you can relax, knowing that your Mammoth Factory products will be made. But there’s more to do! We’ll send you a BackerKit survey where you can add more add-ons if you want. All shipping costs will be calculated in the BackerKit survey.
Important Note: We will only deliver physical items to backers who: A. Successfully pledged to one of the physical reward tiers. B. Successfully pay for shipping in their BackerKit survey.
Last updated: September 24, 2025 09:07
How do I pay for shipping?
Shipping costs are not charged through Kickstarter. Instead, they will be calculated using BackerKit once we’ve sent out surveys and confirmed the dimensions and weights of the items. When you make your pledge, your receipt will show a charge of “$0.00 for shipping” – this is from Kickstarter. The actual shipping costs will be applied through BackerKit Pledge Manager after the Kickstarter campaign ends.
Please keep in mind that the estimated shipping costs on the campaign page are based on current size and weight estimates of the products in each pledge tier. These estimates may change, but we strive to provide as accurate shipping prices as possible. It’s worth noting that due to the ongoing global shipping situation, final shipping prices might exceed our initial estimates. We will update the shipping price in your BackerKit survey as soon as we have their precise weights and dimensions.

Last updated: September 24, 2025 09:07
Can I change my pledge tier after the Campaign is over? [Yes]
Absolutely! When we send you the BackerKit survey, you’ll have the chance to upgrade your pledge. This upgrade option is open to all backers, regardless of the tier you originally picked. Our goal is to provide you with a wide range of options to ensure you can fully enjoy Dark Descent!

Why are you publishing Dark Descent?
Dark Descent stems from our shared passion for atmospheric, survival focused RPGs, where exploring forgotten ruins and learning obscure arcane lore is just as rewarding as combat and roleplay. Dark Descent is part of a world that we have been telling stories in for years and that is deeply indebted to our head writer, Daniel’s, background in archeology and ancient Sumerian history.
Both the Mammoth Team and our Patreons and Tribe Subscribers have created great memories in the Dark Descent setting and this Kickstarter is our way of making Dark Descent a truly memorable and unique way to play 5e and to share it with you so you can add those moments of awe and terror into your game nights and campaigns.

Will your add-ons/products be sold on your store after the Kickstarter ends? [SOME]
Yes! We do plan on selling most of the products that are not Kickstarter-exclusive on our store at mammothfactory.com after we have fulfilled the project to backers, but we can’t guarantee it and pricing will be different.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
